Huckabee Responds to Report His Aide Blocked Cruz from Speaking at Kim Davis Event
On Wednesday morning, former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) addressed the New York Times report alleging that one of his aides blocked fellow Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz from speaking at a Tuesday event celebrating the release of jailed Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis.
“When Senator Cruz exited the jail a throng of journalists beckoned him toward their microphones,” the Times reported, “but an aide to Mr. Huckabee blocked the path of Mr. Cruz, who appeared incredulous.”
Asked by Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade whether the reports were true, Huckabee said:
Look, I invited him in to come and meet with Kim Davis. It was our event. We were kind of surprised that he showed up, but you know once he was there we invited him to come and meet with her so I’m not sure what the controversy is. The program of course was already settled and I am happy that he was able to come and show his support for her, even if it was at the last minute.
