Hugh Hewitt: Trump Jr. Skittles Pic Only a Controversy Because of ‘Thought Police’
Donald Trump Jr. is getting pilloried for his tweet using Skittles to make a point about refugees, but conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt
Hewitt is particularly bothered because Skittles itself used a metaphor for its own product but has a problem with this other metaphor:
I didn’t want to choose between Earth & Saturn, so I invented SatEarth. Skittles Sweets & Sours? Same story. pic.twitter.com/dqmxgn6uIO

Here's @Skittles use of metaphor 4 days ago but metaphor to explain degree of difficulty of detection unacceptable https://t.co/UEVNqcjQlD

Hewitt reiterated the same point on MSNBC today. Hallie Jackson pointed out that no one would really view a planetary comparison as dehumanizing, whereas an argument like that could be made for the refugee one.
Hewitt insisted that the Skittles meme was about “degree of difficulty of detection.”
On @MSNBC this hour, @hughhewitt argues "thought police" have made Don Jr.'s Skittles comment a controversy: https://t.co/ycSXTlHDaq

“Metaphors are used every day,” he said, “and if we begin to have thought police from the Wrigley company telling us which ones we can use and which ones they can’t… we will not have any kind of effective speech in the country.”
