‘I Must’ve Hit a Nerve’: Pence, Kaine Get in Testy Clash Over Running Mates in Debate

kaine-penceIt didn’t take long for Mike Pence and Tim Kaine to get into their first debate squabble of the night, and it was over their respective running mates.

Kaine defended Hillary Clinton on her trust issues and quickly pivoted to attacking Donald Trump for being nasty and “selfish” and putting himself first. He accused Trump of being all about insults.

Pence shot back that he and Clinton “would know a lot about an insult-driven campaign,” saying they’re more focused on attacks than substance and arguing that the world is “spinning out of control” since Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State.

But then Kaine started interrupting Pence. Quite a bit, in fact. After Pence invoked Russia, Kaine responded, “You guys love Russia.”

Pence remarked, “I must’ve hit a nerve here.”

They kept going back and forth about Clinton’s foreign policy record, and Kaine kept interrupting Pence by going after Trump.
