Jesse Watters Calls Roe v. Wade Outrage ‘Overblown’: ‘Practice Unsafe Sex… Drive an Hour Over State Lines and Get an Abortion’

Jesse Watters called fears about the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court “overblown” on Tuesday.

The Fox News host said should abortion end up being banned in certain states, women who practice “unsafe sex” without local access to abortion can go for a short drive to get one.

The Supreme Court is expected to announce its decision on the matter by Thursday. Its ruling is being eagerly awaited after a draft opinion was leaked in May.

An opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito indicated the court could be poised to end the longstanding precedent on the issue, dating back to the 1970s.

On The Five Tuesday, co-host Greg Gutfeld asked Watters what he thought about protests at the home of Supreme Court justices. Watters said the issue for protesters boils down to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 loss to former President Donald Trump.

“These were supposed to be her three Supreme Court nominations,” Watters said of Clinton. “Trump got them instead. That’s why we have this opinion. I think it was someone that said, I don’t remember, Greg,  elections have consequences. Have you heard that one before?”

Watters said if Roe v. Wade is overturned, women who live in states where abortion will become illegal still have the option of driving “an hour.”

“If something comes down from this court, you might have to, if you practice unsafe sex, drive an hour across state lines to get an abortion,” Watters claimed. “It’s being overblown a little bit, let’s just keep this in perspective.”

“It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives,” Alito wrote in a majority draft opinion leaked to Politico. He added:

Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division
