John Bolton Warns Trump-Putin Summit Will Compromise Military Secrets: ‘This Whole Base Is Now Available to Them’

Former national security adviser John Bolton warned that the location of the summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin may compromise military secrets because “this whole base is now available to [the Russians]” on CNN Friday.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper noted that Bolton was “surprised that [Trump and Putin] were having this kind of a photo-op with these aircraft,” referencing the moment the two leaders met on the tarmac at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, flanked by fighter jets.

“Yeah, these are very sensitive, stealth aircraft,” said Bolton, who was national security adviser during Trump’s first term. “Everybody in the Russian party is a suspected spy. This whole base is now available to them, at least to some extent. I don’t think it should have been held on the base.”

Cooper then reported that a flyover, which included a stealth bomber, had just flown over the two presidents. Trump went on to lead Putin into the presidential state car, nicknamed The Beast, to which CNN’s Rahm Emanuel quipped they were “without adult supervision.”

Bolton previously called the summit a “great victory for Putin,” saying last week to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that “the only place better for Putin than Alaska would be if the summit were being held in Moscow.”
