Joy Behar Responds To Kirk Cameron On The View: ‘Just Shut Up!’
The View tackled Kirk Cameron’s rather controversial views on homosexuality, which he was asked about in a recent Piers Morgan Tonight appearance. Cameron told Morgan that he thought that homosexuality was detrimental to society, and that if one of his six children believed he or she was gay he would do his best to talk him or her out of it. Yiiiiikes! Elisabeth Hasselbeck admitted that, although her walls used to be festooned with Kirk Cameron memorabilia when she was a teenager, she finds him to be completely in the wrong here. Except — and here’s where the debate got rather fierce — she believes that part of “the beauty of this nation” is that Cameron has the freedom to go on television and espouse his ugly beliefs.
Joy Behar agreed, grudgingly, that Cameron has the right to say whatever he wants, although at first she thought Cameron should “just shut up about it.” Barbara Walters drew a tenuous connection between the Rush Limbaugh scandal and Cameron’s interview, noting that both of them have the right to express their unpopular views. It was Sherri Shepherd, though, who had the most level-headed response to the whole thing, asking “are you really surprised,” given Kirk Cameron’s well-documented religious beliefs.
