Kimmel on Graham-Cassidy: ‘I Haven’t Been This Happy About Something Being Dead Since Bin Laden’

Jimmy Kimmel expressed his joy that the Graham-Cassidy bill he spoke out against will not be voted on.

‘It shall not pass!” Kimmel declared. “I haven’t been this happy about something being dead since [Osama] Bin Laden.’

Kimmel thanked those who called their representatives and senators who “made their voices heard.” He also praised Senators John McCain and Susan Collins for opposing Graham-Cassidy and defended McCain from President Trump‘s attacks accusing the Arizona senator of flip-flopping on Obamacare.

“McCain didn’t even flip-flop on this. He’s still in favor of repealing and replacing… just not repealing and replacing with a flaming bag of dog crap,” Kimmel said. “And the idea that Donald Trump would criticize anyone for changing their position is very rich. It’s definitely richer than he is. Donald Trump has more flip flops than a Jimmy Buffett concert.”

Kimmel continued his praise for McCain for his service in Vietnam and mocked Trump for receiving a “deferment from Dr. Scholls” for a bone spur in his foot.

“We need a system that provides quality, affordable health care to every American,” Kimmel continued. “Obamacare’s a start but it’s obviously far from perfect. And let’s not forget, the part of the reason why it’s far from perfect because for the past seven years, the GOP leadership refused to work with Democrats to fix it.

He added, “They voted six times to kill it — not even counting the votes this year. They tried 50 more times to cripple it or to remove important provisions from it. And they kept saying ‘repeal and replace.’ The only problem is they didn’t have a replacement that offered anything like kind of coverage and protection we get now.”

Kimmel told Congress “not a congressman” and that he’s “not trying to tell you how to do your jobs,” but went on to tell them how to do their jobs by having hearings with experts instead of writing the bill “in a Senate broom closet” and lying about it.

“This isn’t about sides. It’s about people who are sick.” Kimmel added. “And to all the senators and representatives who stopped this bill, thank you for being reasonable and know that we’re paying attention now and you’ll be hearing from us again.”
