Lindsey Graham Defends Flip-Flop on Sessions: Relationship Between AG and Trump ‘Beyond Repair’

During a broad-range interview on Tuesday with NBC, Senator Lindsey Graham was asked why there will no longer be “holy hell to pay” if President Trump ever fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

As Trump and Sessions renewed their feud with each other over the last few days, Graham drew attention in the last few days by saying their relationship has become unsustainable, and the president needs to have an AG he can count on. Since Graham was a proponent of Sessions’ for so long, Craig Melvin asked him what caused him to change his mind.

Even though Graham said Sessions “had to” recuse himself from the Russia investigations, he said Sessions could no longer head up the Justice Department if he can’t work with the president. He also insisted that there’s a “much deeper” breach of trust that exists between Trump and Sessions, though he refused to clarify what he meant on that subject.

“This relationship is beyond repair,” Graham said. “You have to replace him with somebody who is highly qualified and will commit to the Senate to allow Mueller to do his job.”
