Maddow to Hillary: Are You Hoping the Republican Party Blows Up?
During a lengthy interview tonight, Rachel Maddow asked Hillary Clinton about the current chaos in the Republican party and if she’s okay with them blowing up, or if she’s legitimately concerned about the fracturing of one of America’s two major political parties.
“Do you basically look at the Republican party,” she asked, “and this kind of crisis and say, ‘Good riddance, that party needs to be blown up, I hope they come back as something better’? Or do you worry about that?”
Clinton said she obviously wants two strong parties and acknowledged the “turmoil” happening within the GOP over the prospect of Donald Trump as their nominee.
But the Democratic frontrunner was far more interested in linking Trump to the mainstream Republican party and arguing that he largely agrees with them on policy.
Maddow asked her if she really doesn’t think Trump is a different kind of Republican than the others. Clinton’s answer? “He has a different personality.”
