Maher Blasts Obama: Forget Iraq, Don’t Drag Us into Their Civil War!

Bill Maher found himself very frustrated with President Obama Friday night because once again, the United States is trying to meddle its way into the middle of a “religious civil war” in Iraq yet again. He said Obama’s been framing this as “it’s all about us” when the U.S. shouldn’t be dragged into that mess.

Glenn Greenwald pointed out that the U.S. supports all kinds of “really bad people” and even suggested that outside forces going into Iraq might be considered terrorists in the region too. Paul Rieckhoff shot back that soldiers aren’t terrorists, but they also aren’t “non-combat” forces, as Obama put it, and he said we should just be more honest about that semantic issue.

Maher asked, “Why are we working so hard to preserve Iraq, a fake country to begin with?”

But what also set him off is how the media has been bringing on all the Bush-era neo-cons who got Iraq so wrong, though Maher was hopeful that the media has taken that criticism to heart and started to think they’re “hacks.”
