Maher Slams Dana Loesch, Breitbart, and Bannon as ‘Showbiz Rejects’ for Their Hatred of Hollywood

Before wrapping up his show Friday night, Bill Maher took aim at a particular group of conservatives who’ve expressed animosity for Hollywood.

“Republicans have to stop pretending they hate it when celebrities give their political opinions,” Maher began. “Please, you’re the party that made Reagan president! It’s not our fault that your celebrities are Ted Nugent, Pat Sajak, and Donald Trump. James Woods? His last credit was on a MasterCard bill. Scott Baio? The only thing he’s been in recently that made headlines… was his co-star.”

He took shots at actors Antonio Sabato Jr. and Stacey Dash, both of whom are running for office, and mocked how President Obama had musicians like Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, and Stevie Wonder at his inauguration while Trump had Jackie Evancho and 3 Doors Down.

But then Maher pivoted to specific prominent conservatives who all had previously attempted to make it in Hollywood.

He ripped NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch for her urging its members to respond to liberals with a “clenched fist of truth.” He then called her a “show business wannabe” for reportedly pitching a sitcom to a Hollywood producer that she wanted to star in.

“And do you know what? If only they made that sitcom, today, she might be a completely normal person,” Maher quipped. “Instead, we’re all getting the ‘clenched fist of truth’ because show business gave her the raised finger of f**k off.”

Maher then invoked the late Andrew Breitbart who wanted to be a comedy writer and Steve Bannon who was also a “showbiz reject.” He poked fun at Breitbart’s memoir Righteous Indignation that Reagan was mentioned six times while Maher himself was mentioned “34 times.”

“[Breitbart] hated Hollywood, hated it, hated it, hated it, mostly from his home in America’s heartland; Brentwood,” Maher said. “But trust me, if Bannon could’ve sold a screenplay or Breitbart a sitcom, they wouldn’t have ended up ranting and raving about cocktail parties on the West side, they’d be attending them. And in Bannon’s case, finishing the drinks people left on the table, including the ones with a cigarette in them.”

Maher then urged Hollywood executives that if a conservative approaches them with a “really dumb idea” for a movie or a TV show, “just f**king do it.”

“We need affirmative action for Republicans in show business,” Maher continued. “They’re not good enough to make it on their own, but if we give them a leg up, maybe they won’t take their rejection out on the whole country.”
