Mitt Romney Projected Winner Of New Hampshire Primary
With all New Hampshire polls closed and 11% of precincts reporting, Fox News is projecting Mitt Romney the winner of the first primary in the nation. Romney was officially declared the winner in the Iowa caucus, as well, after one county’s paper ballots appears long after midnight Eastern time.
With those precincts reporting, Fox declared that Romney’s 36% was enjoy to fully project a win. Rep. Ron Paul has so far been able to keep Jon Huntsman at bay, with 25% of the vote to Huntsman’s 17%. There are, however, a good 88% of precincts left to go, which means it is possible the positions for second and third, and subsequent positions, may change as the night go on. Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are also battling for fourth place, with that race too close to call. But it appears highly unlikely that any candidate will overtake Romney.
Romeny is the first non-incumbent since the 1970s to win both Iowa and New Hampshire, and seeks to clinch the nomination in South Carolina next week.
