Of Course One Million Moms Doesn’t Like Fox’s New Lucifer Show
Remember One Million Moms? They’re the American Family Association-affiliated organization — you know, the one identified as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center — that famously complained about everything from gay superhero weddings to why Ellen DeGeneres hadn’t been fired from Ellen yet. Now they’re mad because FOX is debuting a new show called Lucifer in the fall. No surprise, really.
The petition, which is hosted by the organization’s official website, addresses FOX Network CEO Peter Rice. Specifically, they want the network to cancel the show immediately:
The program previews mischaracterize Satan, depart from true biblical teachings about him, and inaccurately portray the beliefs of the Christian faith.
By choosing to air this show, FOX is disrespecting Christianity and mocking the Bible.
The pilot is based on the comic of the same name, which was written by Neil Gaiman as a spin-off from his highly successful comic book series, The Sandman. Gaiman, who’s an avid user of social media, took to his Tumblr page to express his, erm, “dismay” at learning about the petition:
Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.
I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…
That sounds like just the right amount of snark for the man responsible for misleading the masses with his “mischaracterized” personification of the Devil himself.
