On Day Obamacare Was Passed, Trump Said Obama Is ‘Certainly Looking Like a Hero’
Lately, especially since there has been a lot of negative media attention about rising insurance premiums under Obamacare, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has slammed the Affordable Care Act on the campaign trail and in interviews.
During interviews with Fox News and Rush Limbaugh this week, Trump said that he has always been against Obamacare and was calling it a disaster before it was passed. However, sorta like his statements on the Iraq War, it appears that isn’t exactly the case.
The Toronto Star’s Daniel Dale dug up an old clip of the real estate mogul calling into Joy Behar’s old HLN show on the day the Affordable Care Act was passed by the House of Representatives, and he seemed pretty OK with it at the time.
On March 22nd, 2010, Behar asked Trump if he was happy with the ACA becoming law. Trump said he was “torn” because he doesn’t like seeing millions of sick people unable to see a doctor. However, at the same time, he felt it was going to be very expensive for companies to cover their employees. According to Trump, it was a “very, very tough situation.”

After stating that sometimes it may take a few years to see if something really works, he did offer praise to President Obama at the time.
“It’s a pretty tough thing, but yeah, right now, he’s certainly looking like a hero,” Trump told Behar.
Shortly after the ACA was passed, Trump switched course and became a vocal opponent. Yet, on the day it was approved, Trump wasn’t exactly opposed to Obamacare.
