‘Pathetic People!’ Joe Scarborough Slams Trump Allies Attacking General John Kelly Who Made Hitler Praise Claims

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough slammed ranking supporters of former President Donald Trump attacking the credibility of retired Gen. John Kelly for his claims the Republican nominee privately praised Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler as “pathetic people.”

Kelly, who served as Trump’s White House chief of staff, told The New York Times on Tuesday that the former president once told him Hitler “did some good things.” The Trump campaign denied the claims. In a further article in The Atlantic, it was claimed that Trump remarked when in office that he wished he had “the kind of generals that Hitler had.”

In response, MAGA allies have come out to argue that Trump’s words were being taken out of context or that the allegations were outright lies. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on CNN on Wednesday, for example, and refused to believe the story.

Musing on polls that indicate the presidential race is tied, Scarborough attacked those criticizing Kelly for his claims and calling the disputed story an “October Surprise” – a race altering news narrative.

There’s been some chatter about this October Surprise. Maybe it was [New York Times reporter] Michael Schmidt’s reporting or [The Atlantic writer] Jeffrey Goldberg’s reporting that was an October surprise. Maybe it was that Kamala Harris said that he was a fascist. Maybe, more importantly, it was Donald Trump’s longest serving chief of staff who was a general, a highly respected general whose son gave his life to America in defense of America, and who has committed his entire life to defending this nation, who said that Donald Trump was, yes, indeed, a fascist. Also, the chairman of the joint chiefs, Donald Trump’s last chairman of the joint chiefs, said Donald Trump was a fascist to the core.

Scarborough rounded on those defending Trump.

I understand there’s some pathetic people out there. Some pathetic people that are trying to cozy up to Donald Trump, who are trying to blame Jeffrey Goldberg, trying to blame General Kelly for a, quote, October Surprise that they’re making up. Of course, imagine that, people are actually questioning the integrity of those two. Questioning the integrity of General Kelly.

The host then went on to claim that the real October Surprise came not in the claims made by those who served in Trump’s administration but from his own rhetoric.

But, no, those aren’t the October surprises. The October surprises are what Donald Trump says and what he has said every time he has opened his mouth. The October surprise is that Donald Trump has said he is going to arrest his democratic opponents. The October surprise is that Donald Trump has said he is going to use the army and is going to use the National Guard against his political opponents. That’s the October surprise.
