Rep. Boehner Predicts GOP Takeover Of House Is Possible, But A ‘Challenge’

House Minority Leader John Boehner spent a fair amount of time talking policy on today’s episode of Meet the Press, but he also gave his take on November’s elections, and the chances that the Republicans could take over the House of Representatives and promote him to House Speaker. He says it’s a “challenge,” but it can definitely be done.

“I continue to belief that it is a challenge for us to take back the House,” he told host David Gregory, “We have more candidates than we’ve ever had… better candidates than we’ve ever had.” He cited about 100 seats in play, most held by Democrats, and said that the popular momentum was in his and the Republicans’ favor: “The American people are shouting at the top of their lungs to Washington– ‘stop!'”

While he didn’t specifically go too deeply into his own quest to become House Speaker when confronted with “Boehner for Speaker” coffee mugs, he did show optimism at the prospect.
