Rep. Paul Ryan To Fox & Friends: The President’s Rhetoric ‘Never’ Matches Up To His Agenda

House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan appeared on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning to discuss the White House’s decision to cut and ration Medicare spending. “The President and his party leaders’ rhetoric never match up their agenda,” Ryan told host Gretchen Carlson, adding that he thinks things will be just fine for Republicans “once the dust settles” on budget discussions concerning Medicare.

Ryan also issued a warming on how to deal with fear of “attacks from the other side:”

Here is the issue, Gretchen. If we just are afraid of the demagogic attacks from the other side, then that will paralyze us to doing nothing. We’re not afraid of that, because we believe the country understands we’re in a really tough situation. We have a debt crisis on the horizon that will be just like Europe is right now. And so we want to take on these issues, fix this problem before it gets out of our control, and preempt a debt crisis so that nobody gets hurt, so that seniors can depend on these programs that they’ve organized their lives around, so that we can get this economy growing by getting this debt under control.

“And by the way,” Ryan added, “all these tax increases they’re talking about? They don’t actually go to reducing the deficit or the debt. They only fuel more spending in Washington, and that is part of our problem. Spending. So we just don’t see it that way.”
