Top Republican Blasts Mamdani as Part of ‘Pro-Terrorist Wing’ of Democratic Party

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), who serves as the House majority whip, accused Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) of siding with the “pro-terrorist wing” of their party during the ongoing government shutdown.

Emmer joined Fox News’ John Roberts on Wednesday to discuss the government shutdown, and he claimed there are some Democrats pushing back against their own party behind the scenes.

The shutdown has dragged on for over a month now, making it the longest in United States history. Democrats and Republicans are at a standstill over a continuing resolution to fund the government, as Democrats are demanding an extension to Affordable Care Act subsidies to be part of the deal.

“There are some Democrats in the Senate who are starting to push. We would like to see them do the right thing and vote to open the government, at least five or six of them. You know some of the names,” Emmer told Roberts.

Roberts named Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) as one of the Democrats, but cautioned that Fetterman is facing pushback from fellow Democrats over the issue.

“He has been speaking truth about this thing from day one. Chuck Schumer is just worried about his job, and he is scared of the Mamdani side of the party,” Emmer said, referring to Zohran Mamdani, who won New York City’s mayoral election on Tuesday night.

Roberts noted Schumer might be right to be afraid of Mamdani considering his significant victory. Mamdani defeated former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

“He should be because that’s exactly what is controlling this shutdown right now,” Emmer said. “The question is, will Chuck Schumer and the Democrats realize that they need to be leaders and put the American people first as opposed to their politics, putting the Mamdani, pro-terrorist wing of their party first?”
