Stephen Colbert Trolls Trump’s ‘Perfect’ MRI With a Mock Discovery: ‘I Knew It!’

The Late Show host Stephen Colbert poked fun at President Donald Trump’s “perfect” MRI health boast with a mock-up scan that revealed an unexpected discovery in the president’s stomach.

Speaking to reporters on board Air Force One on Monday during his week-long trip through Asia, Trump revealed he had an MRI scan during a visit to Walter Reed Medical Center earlier this month and insisted that his results were “perfect.”

During Tuesday night’s opening monologue, the comedian seized on the news, claiming he had exclusively gotten hold of the scans.

“In fact, we here at The Late Show were able to acquire a copy of Trump’s MRI,” Colbert said, sharing a mock scan of the president. “And it looks – it looks perfect.”

He paused before another graphic appeared, zoomed in on Trump’s abdomen: “Wait a second, what’s that in his stomach? It’s the Epstein files!”

“That’s where they were! I knew it,” Colbert said, riffing on the suspicions the administration and Republican lawmakers were deliberately stalling on their release.

But the news of Trump’s body scan has drawn speculation over what prompted an MRI to begin with. Colbert didn’t let that detail slide.

“Quick reminder,” he told viewers, “people don’t just get an MRI. It’s usually something you only get when the doctors think something’s wrong with you.”

The host compared Trump’s reassurances to a dubious rental host: “That’s like your Airbnb host saying, ‘We had the snake guy come in three times last week, and he never found a snake, so there must not be one.'”

Colbert then zeroed in on Trump’s past claim of bone spurs that kept him from serving in Vietnam, joking: “Wait a second! Bone abnormalities! If he aced it, that means his bone spurs are gone! Congratulations, Mr. President, you’re going to Vietnam!”
