Steven Sotloff’s Fellow Captive Speaks Out: U.S. Gov’t Never Contacted Me

Yosef Abobaker was a fixer working with Steven Sotloff in Syria who ended up captured along with Sotloff by ISIS terrorists. Sotloff was, of course, beheaded by ISIS, and now Abobaker is speaking out about how he and Sotloff were captured, and what happened to them in captivity.

Abobaker said he met up with Sotloff in 2013, when Sotloff presented him with a camera for his birthday. He says ISIS was, at that very moment, “waiting for us on the road and they kidnapped us.”

Abobaker describes in some detail what he and Sotloff went through. And whereas Sotloff was held by ISIS and beheaded on video, Abobaker was released in a matter of days, with a warning that they would kill him if they found out he was working with journalists again.

He claims that the U.S. government never attempted to contact him to ask him about his kidnapping or to try and “take any information about my kidnapper or Steve.”
