The Press ‘Hates Donald Trump’: Tucker Carlson Faces Off with WHCA President

Tonight Fox’s Tucker Carlson opened his show facing off with White House Correspondents Association President Jeff Mason, who spoke up against President Trump‘s denouncements of “fake news” at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday.

Carlson said the dinner felt like “an extended middle finger to the president” and very, very anti-Trump.

Mason pushed back and pointed to the praise he gave the Trump administration for how much access they’re getting.

But Carlson––who let Mason know he wasn’t impressed by the speech from Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj––went to the broader issue of media bias and how the Washington press just “hates Donald Trump.”

And while yes, Carlson acknowledged, Trump is goading them, the press takes the bait more often than not.

He also brought up a study on the political diversity of the press corps and how they’re not exactly awash with Republicans.

Mason identified himself as an independent and talked about the importance of journalistic neutrality, to which Carlson responded by bringing up how some reporters tweet things that might not exactly be neutral sentiments about this White House.

He also charged that if the press corps was made up entirely of white men, that would be a diversity issue that he would take more seriously. He asked Mason how important political diversity is to him.

Mason again emphasized the importance of journalistic neutrality.
