Tim Kaine Torches ‘Spoiled Rich Kid’ Trump Over GA Call: This Is an Effort to ‘Overthrow the Government of the United States’
Senator and 2016 vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine said on Sunday that, based on President Donald Trump’s conspiratorial efforts to overturn the election and his stunning call to pressure Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, it’s clear he’s trying to “overthrow the government of the United States.”
Kaine told Alex Witt the call was “shocking, but not surprising,” picking up on the “I just want to find 11,780 votes” (one more than Joe Biden’s margin of victory) line as particularly striking and calling the president a “spoiled rich kid.”
“He’s talking about our democracy like it is a real estate deal. ‘Give me $11,000 more for this piece of property.’ This is not a negotiation,” Kaine said, before saying his Republican colleagues in the Senate preparing to objet to the election results should “look in the mirror and ask how they want to be remembered for the rest of their lives.”
Witt played part of the recording and asked, “How disturbing is this in terms of the campaign that’s being waged against democracy?”
“This is fundamentally an effort to overthrow the government of the United States. That’s what he is attempting to do,” Kaine said. “Donald Trump is trying to steal an election. That might be accepted in some third world dictatorship, that’s not what we do in the United States.”
He continued hammering Republicans like Ted Cruz anchoring themselves to this desperate gambit and said, “They’re afraid of Donald Trump’s supporters. Their ambition is ten times the size of their backbone and integrity.”
