WATCH LIVE: Sarah Huckabee Sanders Returns For White House Press Briefing
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will hold a briefing today to discuss the White House’s latest plans and administrative agenda. The briefing is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. ET.
It has been a full week since the last White House press briefing, and as a result, there are a host of topics that Sanders is likely to be asked about today. One of the most prominent will likely be the school shooting Parkland, Florida.
The White House previously announced that President Donald Trump supports efforts to improve background checks for gun ownership, and the president said he is focused on the mental health element of mass shootings. However, the tragedy has prompted new calls for gun control, and Trump’s critics, including some of the survivors, say that its time to take new legislative action.
Another subject which figures to come up today is Trump’s reaction to the latest news pertaining to Robert Mueller‘s investigation. The special counsel has indicted 13 Russian nationals for their election-meddling in 2016, and Mueller is also pressing charges against a lawyer who lied to investigators about his relationship with former Trump consultant Rick Gates. Trump has not commented on either of these developments, but he did make time to attack his various political enemies over the last few days.
This includes the FBI, who Trump attacked after they didn’t take heed of the warnings they received about the Florida school shooter. As Trump claims, the bureau failed to act because they were too busy investigating Russia’s actions.
Other potential topics include the Rob Porter scandal, Stormy Daniels, Mitt Romney‘s senate run, and Trump’s slam against the Washington Post for running a front-page story on one of the president’s sexual misconduct accusers.
