WH Strategic Comms Director Mercedes Schlapp Defends Ronny Jackson: ‘These Are False Allegations’

On Tuesday night, White House Strategic Communications Director Mercedes Schlapp gave a strong defense of VA Secretary nominee Dr. Ronny Jackson.

Jackson, who had previously served as the White House physician for both President Obama and President Trump, has been accused of unprofessional behavior, excessive drinking, and mishandling prescription doses. His confirmation hearing has been “suspended indefinitely” upon further investigation.

Well, the White House spokeswoman stood firmly behind Jackson while appearing on Fox News.

“I mean, these are false allegations. Let’s just start from there,” Schlapp told Shannon Bream. “Secondly, you just saw a Democratic senator, Tester, coming out and saying basically, in the case of Jackson, that you were looking at a clean FBI vetting. We know for sure that he has not been a target of an IG report. We’ve seen Democrats and Republicans come out in favor of Ronny Jackson. In fact, you had President Obama basically saying that Admiral Jackson was poised under pressure, that he should be promoted. We’ve seen this time and time again where Dr. Jackson is being dragged through the mud. They should allow this hearing to happen so that Dr. Jackson can speak up. I mean, I just think it’s unfortunate that what we are seeing in these confirmation processes are these very qualified, honorable individuals being dragged through the mud. That needs to stop. Let Dr. Jackson have his hearing.”
