‘What Does That Mean?’ Chris Hayes Confronts Former Israeli Official After She Says Gaza Must Undergo ‘De-Nazification’

MSNBC host Chris Hayes confronted former Israeli minister Ayelet Shaked on Wednesday after she said it would be necessary for Gaza to undergo “de-Nazification” and to be denied any form of self-determination.

After Hayes asked Shaked what would come after Israel’s war on Hamas and whether the Palestinian Authority would take over as the governing entity, Shaked said, “No, they can’t. They can’t because they’re educated for hate, you know? They’re not Hamas, but they are educated for hate.”

“But then who? Who?” asked Hayes, to which Shaked replied:

Okay, so what you want to do first is to eliminate Hamas, and then to have a buffer zone, you know, in order to keep our villages safe, and then there should be like maybe international allies from, you know, countries like Egypt, like the UAE that will come and manage their lives there for a few years. We need to do, you know, de-Nazification in order to–.

Hayes interrupted, “What does that mean? De-Nazification?”

Shaked responded, “Yeah, de-Nazification. Yeah. Because right now there are children from the age, since they are– since they are born, from the age of two, three, we saw it in the kindergartens, we saw it in their school, they are being educated to slaughter Jews. This is how they are being educated.”

The interview continued:

Hayes: “With all due respect– with all due respect, let me just say this. Whether that is true or not–”

Shaked: “It is true. You can’t argue on the facts.”

Hayes: “Okay, but there are 10 or 15,000 people have died. There have been children who have died.”

Shaked: “We didn’t start this war!”

Hayes observed, “What I hear from you is not, ‘Joe Biden says we have to restart the two-state solution.’ What I hear from you, and I hear from most of Israeli political leaders in the center-right and in the coalition government, is, ‘No Hamas, no PA, maybe an international coalition, and we will manage the occupation in perpetuity, and we will sell the West Bank, and that’s it and you will have to deal with that.'”

“No!” protested Shaked. “First of all, in Gaza, we are not there, you know? We disengaged from Gaza in 2005, we gave them the keys, ‘do whatever you want,’ and this is what they did. They choose to establish a terrorist state. We are not going to let it happen again.”

Hayes questioned, “But what then? What you are saying is, in perpetuity, millions of people are gonna have zero self-determination.”
