Will Cain Fawns Over Pete Hegseth Press Conference Which Included Attack On His Fox News Colleague
Fox News host Will Cain gushed over a White House press conference on Thursday, which saw Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth attack his network colleague Jennifer Griffin as “the worst” reporter.
On The Will Cain Show, Cain played a clip from the press conference where Hegseth laid into the press corps and accused them of having hatred for Trump in their blood, specifically complaining about recent reports from CNN and the New York Times which featured anonymous sources disputing President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran’s nuclear facilities had been “obliterated” in U.S. airstrikes.
“You, and I mean specifically you, the press, specifically you, the press corps, because you cheer against Trump so hard. It’s in your DNA, in your blood to cheer against Trump,” said Hegseth. “Because you want him not to be successful so bad, you have to cheer against the efficacy of these strikes.”
Cain reacted, “Spot on. The kind of diagnosis you could only get from a doctor, in this case, a doctorate in the media, which his past experience gives him insight into how it operates. But he didn’t stop there. There was more from the secretary.”
The Fox News host then played a clip of Hegseth complaining, “Time and time again, classified information is leaked or peddled for political purposes to try to make the president look bad, and what’s really happening.”
Despite his praise, Cain decided not to play a clip from the same press conference of Hegseth attacking his veteran Fox News colleague after she asked the defense secretary whether he was “certain none of that highly enriched uranium was moved” out of Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility before the U.S. military bombed it.
“Of course, we’re watching every single aspect,” replied Hegseth. “But Jennifer, you’ve been about the worst, the one who misrepresents the most intentionally what the president says.”
While Cain praised Hegseth’s press conference, others in the media rallied behind Griffin and defended the Fox News correspondent from Hegseth’s attack.
“I’d like to say a word, if I may Dana, about Jennifer Griffin, who was attacked by the Defense Secretary today,” said Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume following the press conference. “An attack she certainly, in my view, did not deserve. Her professionalism, her knowledge, and her experience at the Pentagon is unmatched. And I have then, have had, and still have, the greatest regard for her.”
Hume concluded, “The attack on her was unfair!”
“Well, that’s a shitty way to treat a former colleague,” weighed in Puck News’ Julia Ioffe. “@JenGriffinFNC is a real pro and did not deserve this vitriol and disrespect. Good for her for pushing back.”
