WSJ Editorial Board Member Bill McGurn: What Does it Help a Poor Person ‘To Take Money From the Wealthy?’

Wall Street Journal columnist Bill McGurn is having a hard time understanding Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her thoughts about taxing the super wealthy to fund a new government environmental agenda.

In an interview with Fox Business’s Neil Cavuto, McGurn argued that Ocasio-Cortez’s economic plan is basically a way of saying that the government knows how to spend money better than people do when they invest in the private sector. As Cavuto noted that no one seems interested in doing anything to address the deficit or reduce government spending, McGurn asked this question:

“What does it help a person who is poor or working-class to take money from the wealthy?”

“What are the things holding people back? A lot of times it’s an excessive of government. Requiring licenses to do things like hair-braiding. We should be encouraging people in a lot of other jobs and opportunity and expanding the economy that are not necessarily getting the job at Google. There’s a lot of other ways to make money and there a lot of obstacles for people like that.”
