Eric Swalwell Reminds Jim Jordan Of His Tweet Praising Pro-Hitler Anti-Semite Kanye West
Because Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) rarely passes up the chance to fight it out with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the California representative went after his Republican colleague from Ohio by reminding him of when he publicly tolerated anti-Semitism.
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing about free speech on college campuses Wednesday, which was focused on the rise of anti-Semitism and violence toward pro-Israeli activists amid the current conflict in the Gaza Strip. Swalwell clearly found it ironic that Jordan was holding a hearing on the subject, using his time to drag the chairman for the infamous “Kanye. Elon. Trump.” tweet put forth by House Republicans.
In the past, Swalwell has repeatedly mocked Jordan over the now-deleted tweet from the House Judiciary GOP account on X (formerly Twitter), which Jordan is widely believed to control. The post celebrated Kanye West as a conservative icon at the time, though it was quietly scrubbed after the rapper went on a weeks-long anti-Semitic meltdown that culminated with West declaring his love for Adolf Hitler.
Swalwell brought up the “Kanye. Elon. Trump.” tweet again by asking hearing witness Stacy Burdett to judge the level of anti-Semitism in several of West’s past remarks. This led to Swalwell making the point that Jordan kept the tweet up for weeks until the outrage grew so massive that it was finally deleted.
So, Mr. Chairman, I want to be just today your accountability partner, Your online accountability partner, and just go through your social media. Because we’re going to have a hearing about anti-Semitism, we can’t allow a tweet like this to be posted on our side or your side.
In 2019. Chairman Jordan also tweeted at Tom Steyer and used the dollar sign for Steyer to spell his name. Again, known Jewish philanthropist, playing into what Ms. Burdett mentioned earlier — tropes about Jewish people and money.
So this committee should have a conversation and a hearing about anti-Semitism. But I would first insist that the chairman — I don’t know why he put this tweet up. Either he believes it — I hope it’s not the case — or he just wanted to own the libs. And if that’s what you’re doing, you’re hurting a lot of people in keeping that tweet up for so long, especially knowing what it represents.
