House Republicans brought in Rob Walker, a former business associate of Hunter Biden, on Friday for a closed-door deposition as part of their ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

Axios obtained Walker’s opening statement which poured cold water on the yet unproven allegations from House Republicans that President Joe Biden somehow profited financially or sold government access through his son Hunter Biden.

“To be clear, President Biden – while in office or as a private citizen – was never involved in any of the business activities we pursued,” Walker told the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committee.

“Any statement to the contrary is simply false,” Walker added in his closing statement.

Hunter always “made sure there was always a clear boundary between any business and his father” added Walker in his opening statement, who also pivoted to attacking House Republicans:

Based on what has transpired through this inquiry to date, I am very concerned that what I say here today may be taken out of context to further a political objective, rather than to discover the truth.

Axios political reporter Stef W. Kight noted that so far House Republicans “have struggled to present substantial evidence that Biden broke the law or benefited financially from his son’s business dealings, even as they sought testimony from Biden family members and associates.” Walker’s testimony not only did add any additional evidence the House GOP was hoping for, but likely helped to bolster the Democrat’s case that the allegations remain both political and unfounded.
