Maggie Haberman Says Trump Raging About His Lawyer In Private — Points Out He Sometimes 'Refuses To Pay' Legal Fees

New York Times correspondent and CNN analyst Maggie Haberman dropped the scoop that multiple sources confirm former President Donald Trump is privately enraged with attorney Todd Blanche in a report that pointedly notes Trump sometimes “refuses to pay” legal fees.

Haberman’s reporting and analysis are significant because she is rightly considered an expert on Trump with deep experience reporting on the subject and a network of Trumpworld sources that give her up-to-the-minute insights. Not coincidentally, Trump is known to pore over Haberman’s reporting, all of which makes her a uniquely influential figure in Trumpworld.

In Haberman’s latest report with Jonathan Swan, Trump will get to read that four Trumpworld sources spilled to the duo that Blanche isn’t being “aggressive” enough for Trump and he’s not too happy about the legal team’s pricetag:

Although Mr. Blanche has been Mr. Trump’s favorite lawyer for some time, behind closed doors and in phone calls, the former president has complained repeatedly about him in recent weeks, according to four people familiar with the situation.

He has griped that Mr. Blanche, a former federal prosecutor and veteran litigator, has not been following his instructions closely, and has been insufficiently aggressive. Mr. Trump wants him to attack witnesses, attack what the former president sees as a hostile jury pool, and attack the judge, Juan M. Merchan.

Mr. Trump, who often complains about legal fees and sometimes refuses to pay them, has also wondered aloud why his lawyers cost so much, according to the people, who all spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive topic.

Blanche is representing Trump in the hush money election interference trial that continues to produce fireworks in the Manhattan courtroom presided over by Judge Juan Merchan.

The attorney was “aggressive” enough to earn a scathing rebuke from Judge Merchan in court during a hearing over whether Trump violated a gag order ten times or more. The results of that hearing are pending.
