Nadler Hammers Netanyahu’s Claims He Wants to Bring Hostages Home

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) claimed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has no interest in getting hostages in Gaza home, accusing the Israel leader of wanting to keep the current war going for as long as possible.

Multiple Democratic lawmakers chose to skip Netanyahu’s Wednesday address to Congress in protest of his handling of the war with Hamas, and some chose to stay and protest in one form or another in person. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) held up a sign calling Netanyahu a “war criminal” while lawmakers around her applauded.

Nadler meanwhile sat and read from the book The Netanyahu Years by Ben Caspit and Ora Cummings, which focuses on Netanyahu’s leadership and his relationship to the United States and American politics.

Nadler joined MSNBC shortly after Netanyahu’s address and blasted him as an historically bad leader for Israel. He also suggested Netanyahu does not want to see the current war end, predicting that if it does he will face a number of inquiries about his actions during and leading up to the conflict.

“When he talks about the hostages, I don’t believe he has any interest in releasing the hostages because that would hasten the end of the war and that’s why you see hostage negotiations and he keeps new conditions, he keeps putting new objections to the hostage deal, and that’s why you see hundreds of thousands of people in Israel protesting against him,” Nadler said.

Asked if any sort of peace deal under Netanyahu is possible, Nadler cast doubt.

“Probably not. He will do anything he can to stop a negotiated peace,” the lawmaker said, condemning Netanyahu’s speech to Congress as “fundamentally dishonest.”

During his speech, Netanyahu thanked President Joe Biden for his support in Israel’s effort to eliminate the terror group Hamas.

“He dispatched two aircraft carriers to the Middle East to deter a wider war, and he came to Israel to stand with us during our darkest hour, a visit that will never be forgotten!” Netanyahu said.
