Former President Donald Trump reacted Sunday to the indictment of former advisor Steve Bannon.
Bannon, who served as White House chief strategist in 2017, was indicted last Friday for refusing to cooperate with a subpoena from the January 6 select committee. The news came hours after Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows refused to appear for a committee deposition.
“This Country has perhaps never done to anyone what they have done to Steve Bannon and they are looking to do it to others, also,” Trump said in a statement Sunday morning.
“If they would be so tough with China, Russia, and the world, who no longer respects us, maybe our Country would not be failing at a level at which we have never seen before,” he continued, railing against the Biden administration and saying the US is “a radicalized mess.”
Last week the January 6 committee subpoenaed a whole slew of additional Trump allies, from Kayleigh McEnany to Jason Miller to Michael Flynn.
Trump has been fighting to block the National Archives from turning over documents to the committee. A federal judge rejected his latest request, but on Thursday a federal appeals court temporarily halted the document delivery.
