WATCH: Fox News Anchor Fact Checks Trump Adviser Corey Lewandowski’s Wildly False Claim That ‘Many Democrats’ Support Infanticide

A Fox News anchor fact checked Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski after he made a completely false claim that “many” Democrats support infanticide.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Lewandowski — in response to a question from Shannon Bream about recent criticism of former President Donald Trump by some anti-abortion advocates — argued that Vice President Kamala Harris’s position on the issue is “radical,” and then proceeded to drop his completely incorrect claim.

“Kamala Harris … has had a radical position on the issue of abortion,” Lewandowski said. “Many Democrats believe that you can have an abortion not only on up until the last week, but also in some cases after the baby’s been born.”

Republicans who make this false claim often cite 2019 comments from former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam — who said “if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

But Northam was describing a specific case involving the live birth of an infant (not an abortion) that could not survive on its own outside the womb — and the medical care decisions that would be made as a result. A Northam spokesman at the time said the former governor was “absolutely not … referring to the euthanasia of infants born after a failed abortion.”

Here was Bream’s response to Lewandowski:

“To be clear, in a number of states, there is abortion allowed through pregnancy. And that includes a measure that Governor Tim Walz signed in Minnesota. But Democrats say they absolutely disavow the idea of infanticide or of a baby that does survive an abortion somehow their life being taken at that point. We can continue that debate, because there are a number of states that do allow it through pregnancy. But I think everybody agrees infanticide is illegal and wrong.”
