Congressman Adam Schiff is suggesting that Joe Arpaio‘s pardon shows President Trump will grant clemency to anyone charged in connection with the ongoing investigations on Russia, so long as they keep their mouths shut.
The House Intelligence Committee ranking Democrat joined the rest of the political and media worlds on Saturday by reacting to Trump’s decision to pardon the Arizona sheriff for his criminal contempt of court. Schiff looked at the political implications of the pardon, and he had some thoughts about what this could mean for the future of the investigations into Russia’s 2016 election interference.
Arpaio action was appalling & political. It also sends message to witnesses in Russia investigation to keep quiet, stay loyal & get pardon.

Democratic strategist Paul Begala expressed a similar concern when he appeared on HBO’s Real Time last night.
Arpaio’s pardon is already the subject of massive outrage due to his controversial career and spotty track record on civil rights. Trump has praised Arpaio for enforcing the law in his state, though there are many critics furious that Trump could give a nod to institutional racism while he’s still facing blowback over Charlottesville.
