Bill Shine Gets Indignant Amid Blowback Over WH Booting CNN’s Collins: ‘Ask Her if We Ever Used the Word Ban‘
The White House press corps was up in arms Wednesday over one of their own — CNN’s Kaitlan Collins — getting barred from an event in the Rose Garden because she’d shouted questions at the president during an earlier pool spray. From CNN colleagues, to prominent figures from rival network Fox News, the entire industry has stood behind Collins — bashing the White House press shop for the move. (Well, almost the entire industry…)
Thursday morning, new White House Communications Director Bill Shine bristled at the questions of reporters who followed up on the subject. Specifically, he took exception to the notion that the White House banned Collins from the event, even though they admitted that’s precisely what they did.
“Ask her if we ever used the word ‘ban,'” Shine said. “I’ve seen it on lower-thirds [of the screen during news broadcasts].”
“What word would you use, Bill?” A reporter asked.
“When you ask her if we ever used that word, then I will answer that question,” Shine said.
Another reporter followed up along a similar line.
“You prohibited her?” The reporter asked. “What’s the word you would use?”
Shine didn’t like the question and chided the journalist.
“Focus now,” Shine said, mockingly. “You ask her if we ever used the word ‘ban.'”
