Charles Barkley Admits Christmas Isn’t That Fun for Him: ‘Big Waste of Money’
Charles Barkley admitted yesterday he’s not a big fan of Christmas because of how much it gets people valuing materialism year after year.
On the Mike & Mike ESPN radio show yesterday, Barkley was asked about his Christmas plans, and he admitted, “Christmas is not a lot of fun, man, for me, because it’s just a big waste of money.”
“When you’re black and rich,” Barkley explained, “everybody thinks they’re a part of your family. Everybody’s a relative. Everybody wants a really nice gift.”
And the problem is, in his mind, that people “always want the gifts to escalate” so you can’t get, for example, a sweater for someone a year after you got them something much nicer. That gets people upset.
In Barkley’s opinion, only kids deserve gifts, and even then only “until they get out of high school, and then that’s it.”
