CNN Reports That Orlando Killer Texted His Wife Mid-Attack

The man who slaughtered 49 people in an Orlando nightclub last weekend texted his wife in the middle of the attack, CNN reported Thursday, citing law enforcement officials.

CNN reports:

Omar Mateen texted his wife, Noor Salman, asking if she’d seen the news, the official said.

At one point, she responded with a text saying that she loved him. Salman also tried calling her husband several times during the standoff, a second law enforcement official said. The timing of her calls came after reports of the attack had emerged, and apparently after she realized her husband might be responsible. He didn’t answer, the official said.

A U.S. attorney is reportedly planning to present evidence against Salman in front of a federal grand jury in order to determine whether or not charges will brought against her. Investigators have been looking into the extent (if any) of her role in, and foreknowledge of, the attack Saturday night.

During the attack, the killer also contacted the police and a local TV station to proclaim his allegiance to ISIS.
