CNN’s Toobin: Trey Gowdy’s Only Telling the Truth About ‘SpyGate’ Claim Because He’s ‘Not Running for Reelection’

On CNN’s New Day this morning, Jeffrey Toobin said Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is being so honest about debunking “SpyGate” because he’s not running for reelection.

After last week’s briefing, Gowdy said on Fox News last night he’s seen nothing to suggest the FBI acted improperly. Instead, he argued that they did what the American people would want them to do.

“Gowdy, like Jeff Flake,” Toobin said, “is not running for reelection, so he actually is telling the truth about what’s going on here.”

He said not only is “SpyGate” a bogus conspiracy, but the attacks on the FBI are unwarranted and Gowdy happens to be “afflicted with the disease of being honest.”

Ken Cuccinelli still argued that people shouldn’t brush aside concerns about the informant, bringing up how Gowdy said this appears to have nothing to do with Trump himself.

Anchor John Berman pressed him a bit and again brought up what Gowdy said.

President Trump must surely be aware of Gowdy’s comments, because he quoted him at length this morning… but on a separate topic:
