Conservative Twitter Praises Ex-CIA Chief For Resigning as Harvard Fellow After Chelsea Manning Hire

On Wednesday, Harvard University announced its new “visiting fellows” for the 2017-2018 academic year. They include; former Press Secretary Sean Spicer, Hillary Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook, Kansas City Mayor Sly James Jr., as well as convicted leaker Chelsea Manning for the Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics.

“Speaks on the social, technological and economic ramifications of Artificial Intelligence,” the Harvard announcement praised Manning. “As a trans woman, she advocates for queer and transgender rights as @xychelsea on Twitter.”

However, that announcement did not sit well with ex-CIA Chief Mike Morell, who was a senior fellow at Harvard.

This morning, Morell resigned from the university.

“The Kennedy School’s decision will assist Ms. Manning in her long-standing effort to legitimize the criminal path that she took to prominence, an attempt that may encourage others to leak classified information as well,” Morell wrote in the letter. “I have an obligation to my conscience — and I believe to the country — to stand up against any efforts to justify leaks of sensitive national security information.”

Morell believed it was his duty to resign “to make the fundamental point that leaking classified information is disgraceful and damaging to our nation.”

His resignation was praised by many conservatives on Twitter.

One person who was certainly happy with the resignation… was Chelsea Manning.
