Conservative Writer Confronts Sharpton over Past Offensive Remarks

Al Sharpton can be very passionate when it comes to denouncing racism and offensive statements by public officials, but he’s no stranger to making over-the-top remarks of his own, including calling a Jewish mart owner a “white interloper” back in the 90s. Well, conservative writer Jason Mattera confronted Sharpton earlier this month, accusing him of a double standard when it comes to lecturing people like Donald Sterling about their racist remarks.

Mattera asked, “In the spirit of Donald Sterling, do you think you should be banned from TV?” He brought up the “interloper” comment, as well as others Sharpton’s made (also played in the video Mattera posted), and said it takes “some serious balls” for him to attack anyone else for their offensive remarks.

Sharpton largely dismissed the accusations against him, but explained away the “interloper” remark by saying it was aimed at just one person, and at the end of the video he just accuses Mattera of lying and distorting his words.
