‘Convinced That He’s Nuts’: James Comey’s Father Says Trump is ‘Scared to Death’ of Son
We haven’t heard directly from James Comey ever since President Trump fired him last week, though we’ve heard from the former FBI director’s father, and he’s not happy.
J. Brien Comey gave an interview to NorthJersey.com, where he spoke about his son and defended his integrity after his controversial ouster. The elder Comey also trashed Trump while questioning the president’s mental state.
“I’m convinced that he’s nuts,” continued the elder Comey, a Republican who formerly served as a borough councilman, referring to Trump. “I thought he belonged in an institution. He was crazy before he became president. Now he’s really crazy.”
The elder Comey’s remarks were published shortly after reports came out about how Trump bashed his son when he hosted Russian officials at the White House last week. During this meeting, not only did Trump apparently give the Russians classified intelligence, but he also said Comey was a “nut job” and his removal would take off pressure from the multiple investigations into Russia’s actions during the 2016 election.
Comey’s father also spoke to CNN today, and he opined that Trump fired his son because he’s “scared to death of him.” Comey Sr. thought that much of it had to do with how Trump reportedly asked his son for his loyalty, and the FBI director responded by offering his honesty instead.
“Jim tells the truth, (while) Trump runs around lying most of the day,” said Comey. “Why he was fired, I think, is Trump changes every day…He had three reasons three days in a row.”
While Comey thinks its a “long shot,” he said that Trump should be impeached because “he’s a very incompetent guy. He’s out of his league.”
