Dem Governor McAuliffe Reportedly Being ‘Scrutinized’ by Feds for Time With Clinton Initiative
Democratic Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe is reportedly the subject of an investigation over donations to his gubernatorial campaign by the DOJ’s public integrity unit and the FBI.
According to CNN, one area of serious concern is $120,000 he received from Chinese businessman Wang Wenliang. He made the donation through a U.S. business and there are apparent concerns that he may be a foreign national (donations from such are prohibited).
Now, on top of that, there’s some linkage here between McAuliffe and the two likely presidential nominees.
First, Donald Trump. Trump actually donated to McAuliffe in 2009 with a $25,000 contribution. And there’s this from 2 years ago:

But then there’s his link to Hillary Clinton, which is a more significant one in this investigation:
As part of the probe, the officials said, investigators have scrutinized McAuliffe’s time as a board member of the Clinton Global Initiative, a vehicle of the charitable foundation set up by former President Bill Clinton.
The foundation itself isn’t the subject of any allegations, but McAuliffe did serve on the board and the aforementioned Wang pledged $2 million to the foundation.
The last governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell, was indicted on federal corruption charges over gifts he received.
