Democratic Strategist Who Was Unsure Chicago Torture Video Was Hate Crime Now Thinks It Is

Last night during a panel discussion on CNN, political commentator and Democratic strategist Symone Sanders expressed doubt that the actions taken by four young black adults who tortured a young mentally disabled white man while shouting racial epithets could be classified as a hate crime.

Well, after the four assailants were charged today with hate crimes, the former Bernie Sanders spox said she now agrees that what they did is a hate crime, stating that previously she “didn’t have all the details” and “we were speculating.”

Host Anderson Cooper asked her, “You see it now as a hate crime?”

“I definitely do,” she responded. “I have seen all the details.”

She further highlighted how she thought that we were “having the wrong conversation” and the we needed to ask how we got here as a community.
