Elton John and Vladimir Putin Finally Had That Phone Call

Following Elton John‘s famous pranking at the hands of a pair of Russian comedians last week, the musician and LGBT activist finally got to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone.

According to BuzzFeed, Putin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told a Russian news outlet on Thursday that the president really did call the world-renowned pianist and singer.

Reuters translated Peskov’s comments from the original Russian story:

“Putin phoned him,” Peskov told reporters. “He said: ‘I know some guys played a trick on you on the phone, but don’t get offended. They are harmless people, though that of course does not justify what they did.'”

Putin told John that since he was a popular performer he would be ready to meet him and discuss any subject which interested him, if their schedules coincided, Peskov said.

Whether this means Putin is actually willing to discuss his country’s attitude towards its own LGBT community with John remains to be seen. Considering the musician’s international stardom, the politician may just want the opportunity to meet the man. Even so, it’s nice to know that the two finally, actually talked with one another.

John’s spokesperson did not offer anything more either BuzzFeed or Reuters when reached for comment.
