Ex-CIA Chief Brennan: Officials Like Rosenstein Shouldn’t Resign, They Should ‘Stand Their Ground’

Former CIA chief John Brennan sent a message to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and anyone else thinking of resigning from the Trump administration: don’t.
To recap: the New York Times reported last Friday that Rosenstein talked about secretly recording President Donald Trump and even about getting Cabinet members to invoke the 25th amendment to remove him from office. Rosenstein put out a statement (sort of) denying it, and some of the President’s allies cautioned him about firing him right away.
Fast-forward to this morning where the big news was that Rosenstein was either going to resign or be fired. Whatever the plans have been are currently postponed until Thursday at the earliest, when Trump and Rosenstein are set to meet.
The conflicting reports raised the question of whether Rosenstein was planning to resign or was going to be fired. Brennan tweeted that it should be the latter and that anyone in law enforcement positions should not give in to Trump’s whims.
“Any attempt by the White House to subvert or manipulate law enforcement should be resisted,” he said. “Rather than resigning, officials should stand their ground & wait to be fired. Resisting abuse of presidential authority is not a policy difference; it’s about adhering to the rule of law.”
