‘F*ck You’: John Oliver Roasts NSA, ‘High-Functioning Nerds’ at Tech Awards
Comedian and ex-Daily Show correspondent John Oliver found time this week to host the Crunchies, a tech industry awards ceremony in San Francisco, and he wasted no time in getting down to it with his humor. How caustic was Oliver’s opening? He literally opened with “f*ck you.” And while that was just directed at someone giving him a sarcastic wolf whistle, it’s hard to watch his whole monologue and think that wasn’t the underlying message.
Aside from the expected jabs at the “high-functioning nerds” and other Silicon Valley stereotypes, Oliver questioned the point of tech awards in the first place. He cried, “You have almost all the money in the world! Why do you need awards as well after that?”

Oliver went in strong with some funny NSA material, telling the audience of assembled techies, “Thank you for providing that, by the way.” He roasted Jay Carney for a truly unique defense of NSA surveillance on foreign leaders.
Oliver also had some harsh words for Uber’s “kitten delivery scheme,” which is just prime for kitten murderers, and Tom Perkins, who didn’t see anything wrong with comparing rich people in America with Jews in Nazi Germany.
