Ferguson Judge Orders Withdrawal of Arrest Warrants Issued Before 2015
A Ferguson municipal court judge ordered some big changes to the court system, most prominently of all the withdrawal of all arrest warrants up to December 31st, 2014.
Ferguson was a flashpoint for #BlackLivesMatter activists after the death of Michael Brown. A Department of Justice report found systemic racial targeting by the police, ticketing African-Americans on a far more frequent basis than white residents.
Well, today Municipal Court Judge Donald McCullin announced that any arrest warrants issued up until this year will be withdrawn and that pre-trial release conditions will be changed.
McCullin explained, “These changes should continue the process of restoring confidence in the Court, alleviating fears of the consequences of appearing in Court, and giving many residents a fresh start.”
The withdrawal of active warrants extends to all those issued in the past five years.
