Florida Judge Rules State GOP’s Redistricting Was Illegal

A Florida judge ruled late Thursday that the state Republican party illegally redrew the state’s districts and ordered both the fifth and the tenth districts to be redrawn (which would obviously affect neighboring districts).

According to The New York Times, Judge Terry Lewis declared that the state Republican party “made a mockery” of the law and said, “Republican political consultants or operatives did, in fact, conspire to manipulate and influence the redistricting process.”

Florida passed two constitutional amendments in 2010 to fix redistricting laws, but during the trial “it turned out that legislative leaders destroyed many documents relevant to the process.”
