Fox News’ Kurtz Gets Online Blowback for Tweet Questioning Dems ‘Plunging In’ on Gun Control Today

This morning Fox News’ Howard Kurtz questioned on Twitter whether it’s too soon for people to be “plunging in” on the gun control debate:
Gun control is a legitimate issue, but for the Dems already raising it after Las Vegas massacre, could we just have a day before plunging in
— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) October 2, 2017
(If you’re a frequent Twitter user, you may notice that rather sizable ratio.)
Kurtz received a lot of responses to that one:
Is it too long since Columbine? Sandy Hook? VA Tech? Binghamton? Pulse? Dallas? To GOP/NRA, it's never the right time. Wrong. It's past time

Yeah no

No

It's been five years since 20 children were massacred at Sandy Hook. https://t.co/S3ccH1MKnD

If he were Muslim, the right would have waited .07 nanoseconds to renew calls for a Muslim ban. No, it's not too soon. https://t.co/SMazZlLPui

both my father and my sister are dead because of guns and I would like to plunge in now https://t.co/BmXyEX4U7w

No. We're coming up on 5 years since Sandy Hook. The answer is no. No, we cannot have a day. Got it? https://t.co/dd1WbM0Ja7
— Randi Mayem Singer (@rmayemsinger) October 2, 2017
Um, yes, our advocacy of gun regulation today is actually about Pulse and Newtown and Columbine. Still too soon @HowardKurtz? https://t.co/P0QkzO2JVS

Kurtz followed up and elaborated on his initial tweet a bit later:
Getting strong pushback from gun control advocates. Just saying it can appear insensitive to do this instantly & we don't have all facts
— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) October 2, 2017
Gun debate is important, but it's also clear a GOP Congress isn't going to pass anything. Obama couldn't get a bill after Sandy Hook tragedy
— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) October 2, 2017
Didn't say that re guns. I said one day is decent interval @shmr50 Let’s just wait till passions cool & people forget about it, right?
— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) October 2, 2017
In an online video for Fox News, Kurtz acknowledged the blowback he got but said “it seems like a reasonable request to make”:
