GOP Congressman’s Press Secretary Arrested for Trying to Bring Gun to Capitol
Ryan Shucard, the press secretary for Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA), was arrested this morning on Capitol Hill after he attempted to bring a gun into work.
According to Roll Call, Shucard was arrested this morning as he attempted to enter the Cannon House Office building with a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun and magazine. Due to the nature of the work that goes on there, security on Capitol Hill is tight: staffers, interns, and visitors are required to carry official badges given out by Capitol police, and must go through metal detectors and baggage x-rays when entering any building in the Capitol complex.
Shucard was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon without a license, a felony.
Upon learning of his arrest, Rep. Marino’s office placed him on unpaid leave indefinitely. (Fun fact: Rep. Marino, “opposes restrictions on the right to bear arms.”)
